Steps
1 Domain Names
Obtain a Domain and Host. First thing’s first, you need to own a domain name. If you don't know what a domain is, here are a few examples: www.youtube.com, www.facebook.com, www.yourdomain.com. Basically a domain is what you call your website and what your future visitors will know it as. If you don't already own a domain, you're going to want to buy one from a domain name provider, such as GoDaddy, Network Solutions, or HostGator. This guide uses HostGator for your hosting service. You can use whatever host you want but HostGator is recomended. That being said.
2 Go to HostGator.
First thing you should do once you go to www.hostgator.com is View Web Hosting Plans and choose which one best suits you.
3 Fill out the HostGator Order Wizard.
The first thing you will see is the domain bar where you will insert the domain that you will either purchase or insert the domain you already previously owned. As you scroll down the page you will fill in information such as name, email, address, payment info, etc. Near the bottom you will see a box with a coupon code in it.
Save Money
4 Use either myfreecoupon25 or myfreecoupon994 .
These coupon codes will get you better deals than the one you will already see. myfreecoupon25 is for 25% off and myfreecoupon994 is for $9.94 off.
5 Check your email.
You will find an email from HostGator. KEEP THIS EMAIL FOREVER FOR IT IS VERY IMPORTANT. It contains log in and nameserver information that is essential and hard to memorize.
6 Log into your control panel.
You will now want to click the link from the all important email that will take you to your control panel. Do this and then, using the control panel login information from that email, you will log in.
7 Change Nameservers.
This for people who bought a domain from somewhere other than HostGator. Because you bought your domain name from another provider other than HostGator, let's open up another tab and go to that website. Log in and go to wherever it is that you manage your domains. Change the Nameservers 1 and 2 to the ones you received in your email.It may take 24 to 48 hours for the changes to take effect, but once you submit the changes, you can log out and go back to your control panel. Scroll all the way down until you see the box that says "Domains". Click Addon Domains. Insert your domain in the information and go back to the Control Panel Home.
8 Install WordPress.
Now that you are logged into your control panel, you want to download WordPress. Scroll down until you see the "QuickInstall" icon. Click on it and on the left you will see WordPress just waiting to be installed.
9 Install it.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to view your website for another four hours after it's done installing so just wait for awhile and then you can get started on customizing your website!
